From the first Zumba class I ever took, I knew I wanted to be a part of this amazing company. So, with my love of fitness and my love of dancing I decided to get licensed to teach. My certification class was so much fun! We learned the styles of dances that Zumba is based off of, and the basic steps of each style. I love all the styles of dance Zumba incorporates, but I would have to say my two favorites are Merengue and Salsa. Merengue is an upbeat style that really gets the heart rate up, and salsa is a more sensual style that works your core (it can be fast or slow). Each instructor has their own style and sometimes will do more of one style of dance than the others, but we all try to keep our classes as well balanced as humanly possible. I am guilty of doing more merengue in my classes, but I follow the basic outline of Zumba classes. I start with a 10-minute warm up, then do a few intense songs, then slow it down a little, then I end with a final stretching dance it’s usually about 10 minutes as well. Sometimes I like to mix things up and show my students a new dance or two. When I taught regularly, I would try to do a new dance every other week. I didn’t want my students to get bored, so I made sure I had a good variety of dances. I don’t teach as much as I used to, but I am still licensed to teach. I have been licensed since 2013, and it’s one of my proudest accomplishments. In future posts, I will post some of my favorite dances that you can try at home!
